Privacy Policy
We hold your information with the same care we hold our guests. This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, who can see it, and the choices you have.

2. How this policy applies to you
Your relationship with us usually moves through three stages. The information we collect, and how we use it, depends on which stage you are in.
This policy covers all three stages. The documents you sign as a participant, including our Informed Consent and Retreat Participation Agreement, may describe additional handling of your information. Where they do, those documents apply alongside this policy.

- Testimonials, photos, or videos you choose to send us. We publish these only with your permission and in the form you choose.
4. Health and screening information
Ceremonial plant medicine work requires careful screening. We ask about your physical and mental health, medications, and medical history so we can decide whether a retreat is safe for you and prepare to care for you well.
- Why we collect it: to assess suitability and safety, plan your care, and respond in an emergency.
- Your consent: we collect health information only with your express consent, given when you complete our screening documents. You may withdraw consent at any time, though we may then be unable to welcome you to a retreat.
- Who can see it: only the team members and guardians involved in your screening and care, and medical professionals if your safety requires it.
- What we never do: we never use health information for marketing or advertising, never send it to analytics or advertising platforms, and never sell it.
- Your words stay yours: our automated emails and internal alerts refer you to your record and do not repeat your health answers.
5. How we use information
- To respond to inquiries and schedule calls.
- To review applications and screen for safety.
- To process registrations and payments.
- To prepare you for your retreat and support your integration afterward.
- To send educational content and newsletters you have chosen to receive.
- To understand how our website is used and improve it.
- To measure and improve our advertising, using non-health website data only.

6. Cookies, analytics, and advertising
We use cookies and similar technologies on our website.
- Essential cookies keep the site and forms working.
- Google Analytics helps us understand site traffic and usage. You can opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
- Meta Pixel helps us measure ads on Facebook and Instagram and show relevant content to people who visited our site. You can adjust this in your Meta ad preferences.
These tools receive browsing activity only. We do not send them form answers, health information, or screening details. You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings, though some features may stop working. Where the law requires it, we honor Global Privacy Control signals as a request to opt out of advertising-related sharing.
7. How we share information
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only as described here.
- Service providers who help us run Ananda Lodge, under agreements that limit their use of your information. These include our customer relationship and email platform, our booking and payment platform, video meeting tools, workspace and file storage, and automation tools that connect these systems.
- Our care team, including guardians and facilitators, on a need-to-know basis for your preparation, ceremony, and integration.
- Retreat partners. When a program is co-hosted, we share only what the partner needs to support you in that program.
- Emergency and medical services, when needed to protect your health or safety.
- Legal and safety reasons, when required by law or to protect rights and safety.
- Business changes. If Ananda Lodge is merged, sold, or reorganized, information may transfer under protections no weaker than this policy.
8. Email and text messages
- We send marketing emails only to people who have subscribed. Every marketing email includes an unsubscribe link.
- Service messages, such as call confirmations and retreat logistics, continue while you are an applicant or participant.
- If you provide a mobile number and agree to receive texts, we may send appointment reminders and retreat updates. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out or HELP for help.
- We never share or sell mobile numbers or text messaging consent to third parties for their marketing.
9. International transfers
We operate in Costa Rica and the United States, and our service providers may store information in the United States or other countries. By providing information, you understand it may be transferred to and processed in countries whose data protection laws differ from yours. We take reasonable steps to protect it wherever it is processed.
10. How long we keep information
- Website and newsletter data: until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it, or until it is no longer needed.
- Applications that do not proceed: for a limited period, then deleted or anonymized unless you ask us to keep them.
- Participant records, signed documents, and health information: for as long as needed to support your care, meet legal and insurance obligations, and resolve disputes.
- Payment records: as long as tax and accounting law requires.
11. Security
We protect information with access controls, limited staff access, authenticated email, and reputable service providers. No system is perfectly secure. If a breach affects your information, we will notify you as the law requires.
12. Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you.
- Correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete.
- Delete your information, subject to legal record-keeping duties.
- Receive a copy of your information in a portable format.
- Withdraw consent you have given.

To make a request, contact us using section 17. We will verify your identity before acting and respond within the time the law requires. We will not treat you differently for exercising these rights.
13. Costa Rica data protection
Because our retreat center operates in Costa Rica, we follow the Law on the Protection of the Person Regarding the Processing of Personal Data (Ley de Protección de la Persona frente al Tratamiento de sus Datos Personales, Law No. 8968) and its regulations. Under that law:
- We collect personal information with your informed consent and explain its purpose when we collect it.
- Health information is sensitive data. We collect it only with your express consent and use it only for your screening and care.
- You have the rights of access, rectification, and deletion, and the right to oppose processing, as described in section 12.
- You may file a complaint with Costa Rica's data protection authority, the Agencia de Protección de Datos de los Habitantes (PRODHAB).
14. Additional notice for U.S. residents
Some U.S. states give residents specific privacy rights. In the past twelve months we have collected identifiers, contact details, commercial information, internet activity, and, with consent, health information, from the sources and for the purposes described above. We do not sell personal information. Our use of advertising tools like the Meta Pixel may count as "sharing" for targeted advertising under some state laws. You may opt out of that sharing by contacting us, adjusting your cookie settings, or using a Global Privacy Control signal. You may use an authorized agent to submit a request on your behalf.
15. Age requirement
Our website, retreats, and services are intended only for adults 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has given us information, please contact us and we will delete it.
16. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as our services or the law change. We will post the updated version here with a new date, and we will notify you directly of significant changes when we have your contact information.
